Timothée Chalamet was in knots listening to Saoirse Ronan on Gerry Ryan's radio show in 2004

God bless tiny Saoirse Ronan.

WITH SAOIRSE RONAN appearing on The Late Late Show last week, and various daytime chat-shows in Britain this week, it was only a matter of time before she took her Mary Queen of Scots promotion tour to Graham Norton’s sofa.

So, last night she joined Graham and a host of other celebs (including her very own pal Timothée Chalamet – who she has worked with on other films, like Lady Bird and Little Women). As Graham often does, he brought the conversation to a somewhat embarrassing topic. Thankfully for Saoirse, it was more cute than embarrassing. But that didn’t stop Timothée from breaking his shite laughing at her.

Graham mentioned that Saoirse had won a very good prize on the radio when she was just a kid. Saoirse explained that it had been a trip to Florida and Timothée clapped a little bit sarcastically. Florida might mean old people and oranges to Americans, but to Irish people (and children in particular), Florida was about as luxurious as a holiday could possibly get back in those days.

You might even argue that it was the Dubai of the early 2000s, before we all measured how good a holiday was by how many Instagrams you can get out of it. And still, there were plenty of kids who’d come into school with a Fujifilm sleeve of photographs of their families at Universal, on rollercoasters you’d heard about dozens of times before.

Anyway, Saoirse gave a bit of context:

I had never entered into a competition like that before, and it was the first day of the summer holidays. I was like nine or ten or something. Gerry Ryan – who you know [pointing to Graham] – was this very well-known Irish DJ at home. He’s passed away now, but he was really incredible. His show was like the top show in the country and Shrek 2 had just come out. He was giving out this holiday to Florida and you had to phone in as one of the characters from Shrek 2 and tell Gerry why you deserved the holiday.

Shortly after Saoirse gave the back story, Graham informed her that somebody in RTÉ had managed to track down the audio of her phonecall to Gerry when he announced that she had, in fact, won the entire competition. And it featured her impression of Shrek 2′s Gingerbread Man.

Please brace yourself for how cute her reaction to winning was – especially if you’re a bit hungover and fragile.
